For many years, the Presbyterian Church of Canada provided services to the homeless from a storefront location on Queen Street West. With this new building, the Church has been able to expand its services while providing Single Room Occupancy (SRO) residential units. The project also provides church offices and a retail outlet for recycled clothing. Daily meals are served in a large ground floor assembly hall which is flanked by additional spaces for counseling and quiet reflection. The roof provides a beautiful outdoor space adjacent to a demonstration kitchen where residents can learn to prepare meals. The front of the building is setback to give prominence to the Factory Theatre next door, and the exterior system of coloured glass panels allows the structure to blend seamlessly into its low-rise neighbourhood.
